Hi beauties! I certainly hope that you have discovered your skin type from the information posted in Tuesday’s blog. Today we will delve into some of the terms associated with skin care. This terminology will help you recognize different product types that may be used in your skin care routine. If you need refresher just click this link and it will take you back to the previous post. I want you to be ultra prepared to soak in what we are getting ready to talk about.

Everyone has their own idea of how to "wash" their skin. Honestly ask yourself is what you are "washing" it with maximizing the health and appearance of your skin. Possibly. As expected different skin types require different skin care practices and products. We are mainly focusing on understanding what these terms mean for you and your skin. Below I have compiled a list of everyday vocabulary, their meanings and/or examples used in the skin care field:

*Cleanse - NOT WASH: to remove makeup or impurities (dirt, environmental debris and oils)

-Cleanser Types:

---Gels/Bars (Foaming)

---Lotion (Milky)

---Creams

*Exfoliate: to help loosen dead skin cells, unblock pores and to smooth skin; should be spherical yet symmetrical and smooth

-Exfoliant Types:

---Mechanical (physically using grainy/beady products)

---Chemical (peels)

*Tone: to make skin tight as well as to remove any residual product; also to prep skin for deeper penetration of products, usually applied before masques and moisturizers

-Toner Types:

---Toners (High alcohol content)

---Fresheners (Low alcohol content)

---Astringents (Highest alcohol content)

*Masques/Masks: draws out impurities, clear up blemishes, tightens/tones skin, hydrates, brightens, nourishes and soothes

-Masque Types:

---Setting (hardens or dries; tightens skin)

----Clay

---Non-Setting (does not harden or dry; pre-mixed and ready to use)

----Cream or gel

*Sunscreen (protects from Ultra Violet rays, guards against premature aging, pigmentation/dark spots and helps prevent skin cancer; wear all year-all weather-daytime hours)

---SPF (sun protection factor)

----Broad Spectrum (protects from UVA and UVB rays by absorption or reflection)

*Moisturizer: products formulated to add moisture to the skin.

-Moisturizer Types:

--Moisturizers (helps to retain moisture)

--Hydrators/Humectants (helps attract moisture/water to skin)

I hope this has given you an understanding on what you should already be using as a healthy part of your daily skin care exercise. The next post will focus solely on step-by-step product application using at least one product from each category. I will also include what skin type is better suited for each of the categories. Hello all!

I am so happy to be addressing you in the year 2012 after a wonderful transition from 2011! In 2011 Tailored Events was a part of a few really fabulous weddings and made great friends as well. We would like to thank all of our couples for entrusting us with bringing your dreams to reality.

In 2011 Tailored Events was given the awesome opportunity to showcase our event planning skills as the event planner for the Sada Fashions Fashion Show supporting The Arthritis Foundation. This was and is such an honor because our goal is to always give back and support our communities. Thanks to Alexis Scott, President of Sada Fashions for this life changing opportunity.

Also, during last year Tailored Events welcomed an extension of our company when we became owners of Tailor Made Cosmetics. Working with brides, mothers of the bride and so many fabulous women, we wanted to be able to offer everything one would need to complete their wedding day or that holiday party the are planning! Now we offer fabulously luxurious linens as well as sleek and chic eyeshadows, lip gloss and so much more! Tailor Made Cosmetics offers high quality product that enhances a woman' inner and outer beauty. With a cosmetic line you always want to provide education as well as great product to your client. Neither that being said, Tailor Made Cosmetics welcomes Valencia "Vee" Flowers as our Beauty Advisor and Makeup Artist. Hello beauties and Happy New Year!

I hope that everyone has enjoyed the holidays, the festivities and the time off. I’m super excited to announce that I will be doing a series of posts dedicated to the foundation of great skin care. After all, what’s makeup without great skin underneath? Makeup will not do your skin any justice, if anything can make your skin more problematic. Over the next few weeks I will be discussing skin and how to take care of it properly so that you can get that great skin too.

Today’s post will focus on skin type. Okay, so not many people know what their skin type is. I’ll cover that. Shall we begin?

Your skin type is based on oil production in the skin. This is very important so keep it in mind. Below are five skin types:

*Normal-balanced oil production

*Oily-higher level of oil production

*Combination-usually oilier in the T-Zone; any instance of normal skin with areas of heavy oil production

*Dry-little to no oil production

*Sensitive-typically dry and tight; easily irritated and/or inflamed (red)

--In my professional opinion having sensitive skin is not really a skin type but more of a skin condition. A person can have any of the four above skin types plus sensitivity. --

****How do you know what your skin type is? I usually will ask a client a series of questions to help me determine that answer.****

What does your skin feel like in the morning when you wake up?

---If your face has a natural (light) luster to it –you fall into the normal category.
---If your face is covered in oil-means you have oily skin.
---If your face is heavily oiled in certain areas and normal or dry in others-your skin is what we call combination or combo skin.
---If your face has absolutely no shine-you have dry skin
---If your skin appears inflamed, dry, tight or possibly scaly/flaky-you have sensitive skin.

What is your skin like after you cleanse it?

---If after you was your face and there is little to no change-you probably have normal or dry skin.
---If your skin is oily and feels super tight-your skin is probably going to fall in the oily or combo range.
---If your skin is bright red, itchy, tingling/burning and or flaky-your skin is more than likely sensitive.

How often do you wash your cleanse?

---The frequency can determine the oil production/secretion as well as if your skin's pH's level is balanced

What do you use to cleanse your face with?

---Using the wrong products can offset your goal but more importantly using the right products too much may be affecting your skin.

Are you using an exfoliant or abrasive?

---Trying to even out raised, rough, dry/patchy skin will weaken the outer most layers of your skin and prevent it from functioning the proper way.

All of these questions give me some type of insight to at least narrow down the skin type and move on with the consultation. The way a person answers these questions will without a doubt help or hinder the treatment and overall health of the skin. Once again, I stress the importance of knowing what type of skin you have. Not only will you be able to buy the right products (to include makeup) but also you save money and you save your skin from unnecessary daily damage. The Effect of Color....

Ok.... so you don't want to do the same old colors for your wedding or event....not just ivory, white or even pink or black. Let's step "out the box" and do something bold and beautiful. How about tangerine with fiery fuschia? Or maybe midnight blue coupled with boudoir red? Whatever your color choice for your event, let it scream, "you!"

I get so excited when I talk about color palettes and all things associated with color for any and every event. My DIVA wedding coach, Tonya Shadoan of Circle City Planners coined me "The Color Specialist." She said that during a conversation, everytime I spoke about color my voice became really excited and you know, she is so right. I love color, color and more color.

Brides or any individuals planning an event should embrace color. If you envision a sea of decadent chocolate with drizzles of cozy caramel, go for it! There are tons of ways to incorporate your color vision. For brides, your wedding reception is the perfect place to play on your color ideas. Your wedding cake is a great canvas to incorporate your special colors or even your table designs. If you love tangerine and fuschia but want to spice it up...add the cool color of turquoise as napkins or sashes on your chairs etc.

Even in these economic times, brides can still have that fairytale wedding and not break the bank by utilizing these simple tactics:

1. The first thing you can do to cut cost for your special day is to minimize your guest list. You don't have to give up your dream of a five-course meal just to invite 250 people that you are not really close to. You don't have to invite your aunt's husband's cousin nor do you have to invite the entire staff at your place of employment. Focus on inviting individuals that are close to you and your significant other to attend your affair. Brides and grooms should not discuss their wedding plans at work. By discussing your plans with your coworkers you are allowing them into your event and they will expect an invitation, so keep it as quiet as possible.

2. Secondly, you can keep the invites beautiful yet simple. There a websites out there such as Zazzle (http://www.zazzle.com/) and Vistaprint (http://www.vistaprint.com/) that will customize and print beautiful invites and the accessories to go with them for a fraction of the cost for a printer to do them. You can also do it yourself. You can purchase paper or invitation kits from Michael's or Hobby Lobby and print nice, classy invitations from your home computer and printer.

3. Lastly, brides can purchase really beautiful dresses off of the rack and look like they spent a million bucks. One could also consider going to a consignment bridal store where you can purchase a gown that may retail for $1200 but you may spend hundreds less. Also consider having your mother or aunt make your headpiece or veil. This will not only be elegant but it could become a family heirloom, one you pass to your daughter on her wedding day.

How Sweet It Is!!

Favors are a couple's way of saying, "Thank you," to their guests and giving them a piece of their happiness. So, when deciding on favors think about what makes you as a couple happy and what will be a sweet reminder for your guests to remember you by. "Did someone say candy?"

Yes! Candy buffets are an excellent way to give your guests something sweet and to also incorporate your color palette and your favorite sweets as well. The beautifully shaped glassware filled with sweets of all kinds, sizes and shapes is pleasing to the eye as well and tasty. Your guests will also feel a little nostalgic being reminded of their youth.

Candy buffets give your guests the opportunity to pick and choose their sweets and return home to enjoy them and the memory of your special day. The important thing to remember about candy buffets is that you must have plenty of sweets on hand. This is not the idea that you can cut short. Buffets are most beautiful when they are plentiful! Remember, "love is sweet!"
